Transfer and pay
Posted: 08-26-2010, 06:41 AM

I'm looking to transfer from a level 9 to a 6 (big jump, but need to get back closer to home for some family issues, but nothing that justifies a hardship). It looks like I can get a swap so I'll most likely just do that. My question is do I still take my level 9 pay with me? It works almost exactly into the top of a 6 (minus a little bit) and locaility is different so I'll lose some there, but I just want to make sure my pay comes with me. Also with the pay raises coming for 2011 and 12, would I still get the raises according to the top of a level 6, or am I frozen at the pay I transfer in at?

Probably answered all of my own questions here, but just want to cover all my bases before I do this.

if u stay within the band of the 6 then u keep your pay. when the higher pay scale kicks in (2001/2012) u won't get the big increase. since you will already be within the band of the level 6 you'll only get like a 3% raise instead of the bigger increase had u been at the bottom of the scale.

it would be smart to at least transfer after the 2011 scale kicks in. just sayin.

Yeah I can't transfer until the spring anyway, so are you saying I should wait until 2012 when everything is in? Thanks for the response by the way

Yeah I agree with Roddy, with band the way it will be, 2012 is better.

So just to be clear...if I transfer in 2011...at the top of a level 6 I'd be making 74550 minus locality. When 2012 rolls around I wouldn't stay with the top of the band and go up to 81618, but instead only take a 3% raise?

U need to use you Basic Pay (before locality) to be accurate.

So in 2011, basic the top of the band is 74,550 + locality( using 14.16 ) = $85,106

They in 2012, you get %3 raise on the 74,550.

If you wait til 2012 the top of the level 6 band is 81,618 + locality
then you would get %3 on top of that.

So, the bottom of the band, basic pay, for a level 9 in 2011 is 72782, in 2012 its 81,572.

Lose $$$ if you don't wait til 2012.

exactly. better to wait until 2012 and be above the roof of a level 6, then transfer to stay within the band (which is the roof).

Ok guys awesome...thanks for the help. I'm trying to head down to RIC which is about 3 hours south of me now (BWI). Our lease is up in May so we might just move and I'll crash up here for 7 months until 2012...

I'm gonna hop on this band wagon... So us lowbies in the payscale all make pretty much the exact same (bottom band style)... and come next month, we will ALL make exactly the same... and so on for 2012. So @ work we compare pay often to talk about taxes and insurance and so on (I know normally you are not supposed to share that information). You old pros shy away from this right?

Which brings on this question:

So say I xfer in 2012, to a facility about 3 lower, do people hold a grudge that you are only 3 years into the faa and are capping out for your facility? All hypothetical, just wondering what the old school mindset would be.
"god damn rookies I've been here since 1983 and hes making the same as me, doesn't know shit, blah blah blah"
