straight from the NATCA constitution:

The annual dues of regular membership in the association is set at 1.5% of the individual members’ base pay, step one.

they charge based on the green book pay scale and NOT the white book. so u could be paying more than 1.5%. u can claim a reimbursement though. but, they won't make it easy on us and just charge us at the new lower scale that you actually get paid.

Thanks. 1.5% doesn't seem unreasonable.

No it doesn't, but they charge at 1.5% of the OLD pay scale.

Under the old scale, I would be making $73,822 as a CPC at my facility (I'm using the low end of the pay band). Under the new pay scale, I'll be making $55,200 as a CPC (again, low end of pay band).

Now, under NATCA's current policy I'll be paying approximately $1107.33 in annual dues (1.5% of the old pay scale). If they charged me 1.5% of what i'll actually be making, I'd only be paying $828. I will actually be paying $279.33 more than I should.

They're doing it out of principle by not recognizing the validity of the new pay scale, but they're also sticking it to their members in the mean time. I understand they are allowing folks to apply for reimbursement, but as Roddy said, why not just save me the headache and not take it from me in the first place?

It is my understanding that the law only allows for a standard deduction for union dues. As such, the union had to continue using the old pay scale to keep getting the full dues from the people on the old scale. The two scale system by the FAA is why you have to fill out a reimbursement form. Bring the workforce back together making the same wages and the headache goes away.

If NATCA collected by the new pay scale, then they would be recognizing that pay scale as a contract. That's how it was explained to me

That is 100% correct. NATCA is unsure what legal battles lie ahead.

1.5% is a good amount to pay and see no return, especially for a new hire.

I'm really new to all of this, but maybe some of you could enlighten me on a question I have. Is it true that folks who don't join NATCA still pay some kind of union due? I was told this and it just doesn't seem accurate.
