FAA realigning OIA(MCO) ATC services
Posted: 01-25-2009, 12:33 AM

I was just curious if anyone knew exactly what happened here. I was reading my Orlando Sentinel today and came across a response by Robert Lucht referencing the FAA ignoring a whole bunch of Florida congressional representatives about "its efforts to realign the air-traffic control services at Orlando International Airport." I live here in Orlando and have recently decided that I would like to pursue ATC and this obviously caught my eye and piqued my interest. Thanks!

I was recently selected for MCO. Is this a good thing or a bad thing for a trainee going there? Below is a link to the story that Gatormu was referring to.

Wow... will that likely affect the complexity levels of the tower and tracon as well?

MCO is one of my choices...and if it is understaffed, does this increase my likelihood of getting it?

Even though Id prefer DAB...

MCO has been split. The tower for now will remain a level 11 until the current contract expires or has been amended. The tracon will stay an eleven if not some day get upgraded to a 12. We are currently the 10th busiest tracon in the country. This is taking NCT?SCT into the account as well. We are hurting for bodies in the tracon and they are now fat in the tower. Anyone coming here will probably be selected for the tracon at this point. I would be very suprised if anyone else was sent to the tower that did not have paperwork in hand.

I have to say I'm slightly jealous, I really wanted MCO but I cant complain too much I got DAB which is a lot better than the military ever did lol...at least I feel that the FAA really considered my Geo Pref....curious to know how it goes with all the people from Florida in here...Good luck on your sections.
