New contracts affect on trainee pay?
Posted: 08-17-2009, 07:49 PM

Hello,

As a fairly new trainee at my facility I was just wondering what and or how the new contract will affect my pay (and when?) From what I have read it seems it doesn't affect trainees much (bummer), but the whole thing is somewhat confusing and I am hoping someone would be willing to "dumb" it down a bit for me if possible to make sure I'm understanding it correctly, many thanks for any assistance. -

are you ots? vra? cto? ots you will get about 4k more to your base pay. not including locality. supposedly if you are vra you go straight to D1, but that is not confirmed by any attorneys.

The new contract mostly affects new hires, so not sure where your understanding is coming from. The base pay levels are going up significantly over the next 3 years. As you move through your developmental stages you will see a much larger raise then you would have under the IWRs. Tell me what level facility are you and where, and I'll give you a better breakdown of what the pay changes will be.

By the statement "fairly new" I am going to assume you are at the AG scale. Should you still be at the AG level when the normal raises go into effect this coming January, your pay will be bumped up to the new AG minimums. (Even if you hit D1 before January, your pay will still be bumed to the 2010 minimum for D1 same timeframe) You will continue to bump up the next minimum for each stage you progress as a developmental as prescribed in the banding min/max released by the arbitration panel through 2012 effective the normal increase date of the January of that year (which do not include any additional increases as outlined in their release, read it).

Does that answer your question?

Thank you for the responses, and I apologize for not being specific enough. I am currently an "AG" level trainee, "ots" and at a level 12 TRACON facility.

At a level 12, with AG pay you will raise to 37070 without locality. D1 will be 51,327 up from 44,375 ~13,000 raise (i only have numbers for the pre presidential raise of last year, so maybe add 3% or so to that and every other number from here on. D2 will move from 55,650 to 60,697 ~5,000, D3 will move from 66,925 to 72,660 ~8,000 this Jan.

By 2011, you will go from assuming you will be at D1 (2 years...could be a CPC depending on where you are), from 48,933, to 51,327 another ~3,000, D2 from 60,697 to 65,583 ~5,000 more, D3 72,660 to 79,840 ~7,000 more, CPC from 84,523 to 94,096 ~10,000 raise.

Now 2012, we will assume you'll be at least D2, so you will go from 65,583, to 70,320 ~5,000 raise, D3 from 79,840 to 87,019 ~8,000, CPC from 94,096 to 103,669 ~9,000 raise. This does not include your locality where you are at. Over those years you will make about 30% more than what you would have made under the IWR's.

This does not include locality, or raises to locality over these years. Overall, I would say it works best for new hires. The developmentals, and CPC's, hired under the green book and frozen under the white book will make the same as you do under this contract.
