Pay scales "minimum" and "maximum" amounts?
Posted: 08-23-2009, 04:09 PM I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me how it is determined whether a controller will receive the minimum or maximum amount as listed on the controller pay scale? Or somewhere in between I guess? Why would one controller who works at a level 12 facility get payed $30,000 more than another controller who works at a level 12 facility?

Posted: 08-23-2009, 04:20 PM Its all about time...
Day 1 in that pay band you will receive the minimum... you will move up in the pay band slowly based off of years until you reach the maximum. Someone who has been certified 20 years should be paid more than someone certified for 1 year. sidenote: is that a drug reference in your screenname? lol. Good luck with that |

Re: Pay scales "minimum" and "maximum" amounts?
Posted: 08-23-2009, 05:23 PM That makes sense, for the most part at least. With that in mind however, there are no set rules with regards to when and how you move to the maximum? Is it just arbitrary whenever your facility feels like bumping you up, and by how much?

It depends, under the new contract it's a three percent raise every year.

Traditionally, it was a reciept of whatever raise the President gave all federal employees plus locality. White book created a pay-for-performance system where your facility could affect how much of a raise you got plus locality. The FAA would adjust the pay bands up by X percent, and your raise would be Y percent with Y normally being bigger than X, so you would move up in the band a small amount. This is going to be a generally moot point though with the Red Book bands and pay advancement and how defined it is. Go read the articles for the details. ~Nate |
