what's up man...i grew up there so i can answer most questions about the area. I have also visited the tower, but it has been a few years when they were in the old tower. the two guys i talked to seemed pretty cool. they have a brand new tower now. it is an up/down which means it is tower and approach control. i believe it is a level 7. the tower traffic is very slow, but they have flights to most major airports, usually just commuter a/c and also cargo flights. they have a few flight schools that stay pretty busy though. the locality for roanoke is standard i think it is just above 13% so you won't be getting rich there. the area is awesome, roanoke is a growing small city nestled right in the valley of the blue ridge mountains, absolutely beautiful out there. anyways, i won't go into any specifics unless you ask, don't want to be wasting too much time, but good luck if that's what you decide. i also work with someone that used to work with a guy that now works at roanoke tower so maybe i can get you his name if you'd like.
