I'll go a step further than most here and say this. It is a myth that a probationary employee can be removed from service for any reason. Even probationary employees have means to appeal a firing.

If this employee was a military veteran, there are several court rulings (US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit) from 1999 and 2003 that provide them with the same protections and rights of other employees.

Specifically, some veteran employees in probationary status must be given at least 30 days’ written notice before being terminated, must be given at least seven days to answer a termination, have the right to attorney representation, must be given a written and specific decision on termination at the earliest practical date, and have the right to appeal to MSPB.

Please pass the word because I'm tired of the talk that probationary employees don't have rights to appeal their dismissals.
