I was stationed there from 92-96. The union did not have specific assigned spots but we were encouraged to let the DOD's have the closest ones to the building. They did a superb job training the Marines. Most were very good controllers and had a wealth of knowkedge to pass on. They usually didn't tolerate slackasses. If you didn;t put out in training, you got sent to VAL/base ops. Traffic was pretty crazy then so you didn't make it if you weren't shiite hot. We had a very good OIC and she seemed to have a very professional relationship with the dod leadership. Who was the guy you knew, I probably know his also.
