Future Hiring trends
Posted: 10-26-2009, 06:09 PM If you had to guess, what do you think the situation is with Lockheed starting hiring again?

Re: Future Hiring trends
Posted: 10-27-2009, 02:03 PM If LM is going to close down all but 3 or 4 facilities, AND reduce staffing to 300-400 people, then the new hires will be the first to go. Then after the old timers retire (10-15 years) the laid off workers will come back for 10-15 years. I would guess the answer to your question is 20-30 years, if flight service last that long.

The first thing that needs to happen is to figure out if it's going back to the FAA or not. If so, they might so some hiring. If not, you'll see more people out of a job, then the inevitable collapse of flight service. |

Re: Future Hiring trends
Posted: 10-30-2009, 05:17 PM Do we need people? Yes, despite what management says the Hubs are very short. There are also a lot, and I mean a lot, of younger people who are planning on quitting soon to go to the FAA or other options. There was recently a big meeting in DC and apparently there are some big things coming down the pipe. What those things might be is anyone guess. The DCA Hub right now cannot handle the traffic with all the remaining C-cites out east. If they decide to close those facilities its game over for LM. The other two Hubs have lost almost all of their C-site support and they are already in trouble.
Another problem is with seniority. Since there is no hiring going on people at the bottom of the seniority list will always be at the bottom. Most people aren't going to put up with crappy shifts and crappy vacation slots for an entire career. Hopefully we will see some hiring soon, but its hard to say. |
