Not exactly, it's dry because the capacity of air to hold water at -40F is almost nothing.

Now the reason you state could be the reason they don't run humidifiers but I find that very unlikely.

I find it unlikely that the cabin air system is independent of the engines as well (but haven't followed the 787 aside from the inability of boeing to get it to market on time) where are they getting air for the pressurization system?

The 787 system will be driven by electricity generated by the engines. An electrical system makes it easier to humidify the cabin air because it's not starting with the hot, dry air from the jet engines, says physicist Hans Weber of consulting firm Tecop International in San Diego.

Furthermore....

As a result, the 787 cabin air system will allow 15% humidity, a more comfortable level than the current 4%

You said the cabin enviorment is dry because airplanes are aluminum when the reality of it is the cabin is dry because they haven't humidified it. The two are not completely related.

Congrats to boeing for fixing a problem that didn't exist.

True, but it's also supported that composite can sustain higher humidity levels because it won't corrode over time...

If you really want to pick apart the context of my OP and prove thou art a better analyst and arguer by me guest.

We're both right

We're both right
the aircraft spends how long in the air and how long in the ground at humidity levels above say 50%

3 to one probably? the cabin is dry because it's retarded to waste payload hauling around water and humidifiers to bump the cabin from 4 to 15%

As a passenger, I can say that the 777 is one of the sweetest rides out there, it has very good looks, and the landings are usually always smooth.

Shoot, man, I like riding it just for the seats. I guess it varies by airline, but flying out and back from Korea a couple months ago, the 777 had the 747 beat hands down. That's more comfy than anything I've got at home. Course, most of that stuff's inflatable, but you get my point.
