I see that these are ITT controller positions, ITT has controllers at FOB Salerno (currently fully staffed), Jalabad (which I hear is desperate for controllers), and FOB Sharano. Non of the facilities have radar so they are VFR Towers. Even though ITT's contract is with the Air Force most of their towers are on Army base.

What's the pay like for the Salerno tower gig? PM me if you don't want to put it out there. I'm in Kuwait now, but I might want a change of scenery lol.

Do you know if the FAA/DOT has this opportunity for their controllers via a TDY or something?

The FAA/DOT does not send controllers to Iraq or Afghanistan TDY, contractors (ITT, Midwest, KBR, and Serco) operate the majority of the air traffic control facilties. Midwest at this time is the only company that operates radar facilities but I'm hearing rumors of that changing to another company.

The contracts operate under two main contracts: LOGCAP, and AFCAP, to apply you need to go to each companies web site and look for positions under LOGCAP or AFCAP jobs, then cross your fingers that you hear back from them.

Midwest was an AFCAP contract until 2006 when the contract was turned over to SPAWAR (Navy). Later, Kandahar was bid out from NAMSA and Midwest won that. So KAND is now a NATO contract.
