Well, local control training begins! I must say, it is nice to be checked out on ground, but the training continues. I'm slowly picking up our local SOPs so that's a plus. I must say that just paying attention to what local does while you're on ground helps out a lot. While you may not fully understand what is going on, you will once you get on local control. Traffic is hit or miss though, unless there are military operations going on. Then we have to sequence them in with radar's IFR arrivals,...

Things are starting to pick up in Peoria! We are getting a lot more VFRs so I'm getting a good work out on the ARTS keyboard. I say the more I can get, the better I'll get so bring 'em on.

Then Monday came along, and it was just like any other day, until I plugged in with my supervisor. I thought it was just another skills check, but after being plugged in for around two hours, I was actually being evaluated for checkout on FD/CD/GC.

And yes, I passed!!! :multi:...

This was a pretty exciting weekend. The weather was really bad in the midwest so we had a lot of diverts come our way. Of course they were all trying to go to Chicago, so why not stop over in Peoria for several hours! We had a Delta CRJ9, American MD80, United ERJ145 and a BBJ parked on the ramp, it was nice to see all our gates full at one time. Monday and Tuesday were not so exciting, although there is some cause for celebration. Monday I had TRT class, which was basically a tower refresher...

Another week goes by...

Pretty routine traffic, and I've gotten more hours of training in so that's a plus. My ARTS IIE entries are getting a bit faster and I'm starting to feel like I could do this by myself. There are some "uhhh" moments, but I find myself either finding the answer or asking about it after I'm off position. One thing I learned more about was the use of the word "reference." Basically at MMAC it was, "behind departing...cross 16 at bravo"...

Well, the weekend was a bit slow, but that's how it is here in Peoria. It seems like after 6pm all the traffic dies down and we only get a few air carriers until the cargo guys come around 10pm.

The week went very well though. I finished up with about 37 hours on FD/CD/LC so that's awesome. Also, the weather was quite nice so we had some VFR traffic and our military guys went up and did their maneuvers as well.

I'm getting better at issuing clearances and typing...
