Engine Runs?
Posted: 04-08-2010, 11:15 PM

When an a/c is doing an engine run and an engine run only, i remember when i was a 3 level I had this set phraseology that i would have to say and it was "Proceed as requested, monitor this freq., advise on termination". Now im training a new guy and cant find that phraseology anywhere. I know a good ole proceed as requested advise on term. is good enough but dont want to show him the laziness of not looking things up. Need some help. Thanks

never seen "engine run" phraseology before. Maybe it was in your local Air Force LOA/SOP

Most airports and military fields will have designated locations for engine run ups, look for a local LOA or procedure. If you don't have one, then stress common sense as to controlling where the jet blast or prop wash will blow toward, noise, etc.

I haven't read any prescribed phraseology either, but think it is more technique and what you were taught. I say pretty much the same thing as everyone else. "Engine run approved, monitor this frequency at all times, advise complete" Good luck

No, its an approach thing. What, dont you guys talk to lots of planes moving around the airfield at LAX?

Sorry, I couldnt help myself. Yes, it is a tower thing. It is also quite common at airports with MX facilities.

I am not certain of the phraseology, but at APA we frequently hear ".... proceed to ____(normally a run-up area), monitor this freq...." Usually preceeded or followed by ".....follow behind (or you're in front of...)".
