I have only radar certs and lucky me I get first pick at tracons, least that is how my tol's have gone. I am sure there are tower people in radar facilities and vice versa. I would just worry about getting qual'd.

The only way you may be "screwed" is if you were to try to get a contract tower job while waiting for the FAA to pick you up. They usually require tower experience.
