dont forget... even IF you get atc "guaranteed" in the USAF, you still have to pass all medical qualifications and keep them, pass Technical school, and get rated at your first duty location. you have zero say in where they send you (AK, NM, ND, etc.) Meanwhile you MUST do a 6 year enlistment to get ATC... and if you are unsuccsesful in being a controller they will most likely make you a Cop or a cook to serve out the remainder of your contracted 6 years. all that said, ATC in the air force is still a great job if you can get it.

Which also means, do everything you can to stay medically qualified and don't be a scrub that puts little effort into training. Make it your main focus and make it happen.

You sign a contract at MEPS. It will say if you are guaranteed a job and what you are signing up to do if so, at what rank, and for how long. They tried messing with me at MEPS with the rank on my contract. I enlisted as an E-3, but they tried to put E-1 on my contract and told me it would change after basic. I refused to sign the contract until they changed it. I had an E-8 and a 0-3 scolding me telling me I was holding things up and I had to sign it and yada yada yada. I told them to change it or they could call me a cab. They changed it. Ass holes.

Some dude in my basic training flight said the same kinda thing happened to him. His recruiter promised him intel or something like that (I can't remember exactly.) They tried to get him to sign a open general contract at MEPS and told him he would get recruited in basic training for intel. He refused to sign and actually went home. He had to wait like 6 more months until they had a intel slot open up. I think his recruiter tried to pull a fast one on him there.

Anyways, you might have to wait a long time, but you can sign up for 1 specific job only (at least with the USAF) and if they break their promise, it gives you grounds to get out since you have it on your contract--or at least that is how is has been explained to me.

same thing here, went to meps they told me to write down 10 jobs i wrote atc only, they tried to tell me i had to write more. told them i wasn't in the military yet and i did not have to write anything else. they got mad told me it might take a year, i told them to call when it came open. needless to say next day my recuiter called asking when i could leave and it was atc. otherwords if all u want is a specific job don't sign anything and don't let them try to push u, they don't own u yet
