USAF ATC Special Duty Assignments
Posted: 01-30-2011, 04:16 PM

I'm not even sure if 'special duty assignment' would be the proper term for it but outside of TERPS and becoming an instructor, what could an operational USAF ATC look at as alternate duties? I'm at the schoolhouse now, was interested in CCT but apparently them taking ATCs on the jump from BMT stopped a little while back. One of the Instructor Supervisors here said something about a gig called "Combat Airspace." Any info on this in particular?

EDIT, just realized I spelled 'duty' incorrectly in the title. Look at the 'tard...

I've tried searching for USAF ATC special duties but I can't seem to find anything. Do you know the AFI or other publication that would stipulate, or at least point me in the right direction? And when you say not an option for a while I suppose we're talking 5 or 7 level?

When you get into the real air force you can look up all the assignments that are being bid for and filter it by afsc on the personnel site. You cannot bid for a special duty as a 3 level regardless. You're an 1c131 air traffic control apprentice, until you're not, either by upgrade or withdrawal.
And yes, combat airspace is an E5+7lvl assignment

Good deal. Not worried about these things right now, just focusing on getting out of the schoolhouse now (almost there).
