Re: RIP USAF ATC bonus
Posted: 07-23-2012, 09:48 AM Took alot of crap when I got out after 11 years...best decision I ever made. At a lvl 7 now and it's still a ton more than I made as a SSgt, sup pay and all. Going to a lvl 11 in October. My AF sup tried to get me to stay in so that I could make TSgt..."It's like a $200 a month raise," he said. Hmmm...$200 a month or $115k (before premiums) a year. You can keep the stripes and bonus. I'll take no deployments, no additional duties, no 3 lvls, no epr's, no cc calls, no blues...do i need to go on. Oh, and I'll take the FAT CASH.

. Lots of fun while I was in, but it's nice not having the added stress of being military while going through training. Set yourself up well so you'll have options when it's time to reup. If you decide to stay in, it'll be mainly by choice and not by necessity. For me, after two deployments and a possible remote to Korea, it was not worth being away from family. Good luck |

Looking at it from a retirement point of view, when I turn 60 I'll already be doing well from the FAA retirement and TSP. That extra $$$ from two weeks a year is well worth it. The Guard is def a great part time job plus it's a great vacation away from work. I started at Indy Center a few months back so I won't be talking to airplanes for quite some time. This way, I get to take care of the itch for a few weeks and gets me away from the endless SOP's, CBI's, maps and lectures. |
