Not sure if I should trust this recruiter
Posted: 04-13-2009, 01:34 PM So I talked to a recruiter over the phone today to get some information.
I asked him if I can guarantee ATC on my contract to which he said yes, but then he also said something about me having to sign up for 4 jobs in MEPS but putting ATC as #1. I asked him if that would be going open general and he said no. So my question is how does MEPS work? He said I would have ATC on my contract but if I did why would I have to select another 3 jobs from the list? I'm just not sure I can trust what hes saying, it sounds like hes telling me I would be guaranteed but almost without actually telling me. I think his exact words were "If you qualify you can get it on your contract" But I think I also heard him say (quietly) something like that they could put me where they need me within the other 3 jobs. That sounds like open general to me. Can I trust him? |

Posted: 04-13-2009, 01:45 PM Getting ATC guaranteed is dependent on your ASVAB scores. What you were told does sound iffy, so I would call another recruiter.
Was this AF? |

Re: Not sure if I should trust this recruiter.
Posted: 04-13-2009, 02:44 PM putting down 4 jobs is the same as going in "open general" with 4 preferences. ATC guaranteed is exactly that...it's guaranteed. DO NOT believe your ridiculous recruiter. he is trying to get you to fill a job other than ATC. you will NOT have to put down 4 different jobs if you have ATC guaranteed.

Re: Not sure if I should trust this recruiter.
Posted: 04-13-2009, 02:56 PM I took the test WAY before I ever went to MEPS. You should have your job guarantee before you go to MEPS. I went from MEPS direct to boot.

Re: Not sure if I should trust this recruiter.
Posted: 04-13-2009, 03:55 PM What happens is you go to MEPS and take the ASVAB then they give you a list of jobs you qualify for based on your score. They make you chose 5 jobs and guarantee you 1 of those 5. When I was at MEPS I dealt with some retarded Master Sergeant that had been put out to pasture. I told him I would only select ATC and he got pissed and attempted to explain to me that that's not how it worked and if I wanted to be in the Air Force I would do whatever they needed me to do. I told him to pick 4 other jobs that the Air Force was in need of and if something was selected for me other than ATC to call me so I could hang up on him. Remember you're still a civilian, it's his job to recruit you not the other way around, and if you want this job then don't settle for anything less no matter how attractive they make it sound. I'm out of the Air Force now and waiting for a school date for Cleveland ARTCC because I didn't let them sucker me into other B.S. jobs!

Re: Not sure if I should trust this recruiter.
Posted: 04-13-2009, 04:10 PM Ok, sounds like they changed the process, or it might be different for different areas. I took my ASVAB locally, selected my job, set a MEPS date then left from MEPS and went straight to boot.

Re: Not sure if I should trust this recruiter.
Posted: 04-13-2009, 04:17 PM i was same like noid. took the asvab months and months before MEPS. after the asvab i got ATC guaranteed and then eventually went to MEPS to inprocess. that night, i was on a plane to San Antonio for basic.
maybe the process changed. i joined the USAF in the mid-90's. |
