Ask the USAF ATC Instructor!
Posted: 07-21-2009, 02:07 PM

Hey,

I've learned A LOT from this site and I thought I could give back so here it goes. I have been a controller for the USAF for 9 years, 4 of which were at the schoolhouse teaching active duty, guard, and reserve air traffic apprentices. I know the school like the back of my hand as well as the ins/outs of being a controller in the Air Force. If you think you may be in that direction sometime and have any questions at all you'd like to ask, here's your chance! I'm in Baghdad right now, so nothing but time.

Take care and good luck!

Speedie,

Good of you to offer to discuss the in's and outs of being a military controller, I've seen several questions on various conferences on this subject.

15K for a SSgt? wow, it came WAY down from when i was almost enticed to reenlist in zone B. i think it was capped out with a 6 SRB for zone B. just wondering what the 3 zones are. i'm sure there is somewhere to google and find that information but i tried and gave up.

Zone B is 6.5 right now.. I think he meant 15k per year. With the 90k raised cap I know people are capping it out for a 6yr re-up.

oh okay. that sounds more like it. are people still trying to get to the desert to reenlist and get their bonus tax-free? that was the best deal in the world.

speediebang,

what's the training program like? are they still doing single track at Keesler or back to dual track? i thought the trainees they were sending to the field on the single track were less prepared than those of us that did the dual track training.

Yeah we just sent a couple out there to do that. Pretty ridiculous to save like 20 grand by doing it that way.
