USAF ATC going to FAA ATC
Posted: 11-09-2009, 03:16 AM I was wondering about once completing the 6 year enlistment if you have to do more training to be able to work at a air port on a civilian contract for the FAA. My dad said most likely i would have to do a course for the FAA in Oklahoma City, but I've heard from several other sources that I could go straight out of the AF to a FAA job.

Re: USAF ATC going to FAA ATC
Posted: 11-09-2009, 09:02 AM Sometimes the FAA will send you diectly to your initial facility, and occasionally they will send you to the FAA academy in Oklahoma, there is no reasoning behind their process. As for training it takes an average of 1 to 5 years to certify, depending on your experience and abilities and the level of the facility. I've seen AF controllers with approach and tower experience certify in less than 6 months, so you can certify quicker.
