Re: 153rd Airlift Wing ANG Base, Cheyenne, Wy
Posted: 07-23-2009, 01:22 AM Ok, I chatted with him for a few minutes this morning. You probably won't be able to get a slot there. He says he is pretty sure they are full, as are most units right now.
There is no on base housing. You will find an apartment to rent and get BAH and BAS. He doesn't know much about the tower, but the rapcon is open from 6am-10pm. The full time guys work straight days or swings. I dunno what the trainees will work. They have a lot of trainees coming in right now. If I were you guys I would start calling all the units and find an opening. There aren't many available. One guy told me he called 8 units and only one had an opening. Good luck. |

Thanks for the reply. Im actually in the process of talking to the recruiter for this base. He told me he can get me in. Do you think that hes lying to me just to get me to take test or do you think he can really get me in. It makes me wonder since your contact is saying there full. I believe, ive made it clear to the recruiters that I will only take a position in ATC. Do you think at the last minute there gonna change everything and tell me there full?? Just so were clear, my recruiter has said, yes, he can get me into ATC at the Cheyenne ANG base (unfortunatly, with no bonus, tho). Colt, I was also wondering about transfering. My recruiter told me its very easy to transfer. He said that the base you want to transfer to has to take you if your certified, no questions asked. Is this true? Also, if you do transfer do have to spend another year getting certified at the new base or how does that work? Thanks again, like always, for the help!! |

Re: 153rd Airlift Wing ANG Base, Cheyenne, Wy
Posted: 07-24-2009, 11:42 PM As far as a transfer, no that isn't true. THey have to have room for you on the manning document. But is it hard to transfer? god no. Usually they can make room for ya.
Go get your tests done to see if you qualify (ATSAT/MEPS for physical, etc) If you qualify and the recruiter says he can't get you into ATC then you say thanks, but no thanks. Nothing is official until you sign that contract. And even then it really isn't official until you take the oath right before you step on the plane to go to basic. Once you take that oath, you are in. |

Posted: 07-25-2009, 11:43 AM What he says means absolutely nothing. When you get your enlistment contract, if it doesnt say ATC then dont sign it and go on your merry way until you find a recruiter who will get you what you want.

Re: 153rd Airlift Wing ANG Base, Cheyenne, Wy
Posted: 08-18-2009, 10:05 AM Hey guys.
I ended up signing for this base! Got ATC here and im excited! They gave me a tour of the base and stuff and it seemed to be a pretty nice place. From what I heard it was one of the bigger guard bases around. The tower is also fairly nice! Wasnt able to go inside the tower or rapcon yet so I didnt see the inside, but Ive heard its nice! They have a nice brand new ATC building where the ATC staff hang/work when not in tower/rapcon. Its sounds like there trying to get me shipped out in November so I can make tech school in Feb. So, im excited! |

Re: 153rd Airlift Wing ANG Base, Cheyenne, Wy
Posted: 09-10-2011, 01:25 PM O.k., I took a full-time job out in CYS in 09...turned around and came back 12 long months later (that was considered a long stay for someone with a choice). The facilities out there were awesome...new tower, new RADAR break rooms. Workload was light (300/day was busy) and the hours were great. Morale, however, was low...very low...so low that I walked away from a good gig. That's the only problem the place really had, but it was a big one and it was affecting work performance. Hopefully things get better out there soon, because they had a great bunch of people out there...sadly, most of them are walking out the door.
-thought this would be helpful for future applicants- |
