Beginning May 2009, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will offer two new doctoral degree programs available through their Worldwide Campus. The most exciting for aviation students is the PhD in Aviation. This will be the first program of its kind in the United States. The PhD will take three years to complete and require each student to complete an annual residency at one of Embry-Riddle campuses. The program can be completed in as little as two years on the "fast track" or up to seven years on the "slow track."
The admission requirements will be very strict and for the first class beginning in May of 2009. Embry-Riddle will only select 25 students. The deadline for the application to the PhD program is January 15th, 2009. The application fee is $50. Tuition will cost $980 per credit hour, books will run around $300 per class, and the week long residency per year will also cost the student an additional $1200.
Students who wish to apply will need to have taken the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) within the last five years. They will also need to provide transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work, sent directly from the University they attended. Other things to include in the application package are: Statement of Goals, Sample of Writing, Letter of Recommendation (three are required), and a resume.
