NATCA URGES SWIFT PASSAGE OF SENATE FAA REAUTHORIZATION BILL

NATIONAL AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS ASSOCIATION (NATCA)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 22, 2009

WASHINGTON ? National Air Traffic Controllers Association President Patrick Forrey released the following statement after the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee approved a two-year FAA reauthorization bill on Tuesday.

?We thank the Committee for approving this critical bill (S.1451), which addresses so many key issues that affect the safety of the National Airspace System and provides for the advancement of the much-needed
modernization of the air traffic control system. Now, we urge the Senate leadership to move the bill quickly to the floor for a vote. This bill needs to pass.

?Today?s news is welcomed by all of us in the aviation community who have such an important stake in the safety and efficiency of the system. But we need to keep the momentum going and move the bill to swift completion. The House passed a strong bill (H.R. 915) in May. It is important now that the process move quickly to a conference committee where both the Senate and House bills can be reconciled. Therefore, we urge swift passage of S.1451.?
