I applied OTS awhile back, and I passed the AT-SAT in January. I'm in the hiring process with another agency, but if that falls through I'm hoping to hear from Chicago for ATC. I live in Northwest Indiana, and I'll probably just do the 1 - 2 hour commute for awhile. I own a home and a rental. I bought my first home (now rental) in 2001 for $77450 in a nice neighborhood with really good schools. The property taxes were $114 per yearand they just went up to $600. I just bought my new house for a little over $100,000 and the property taxes are about $900 per year. The drawbacks - a potentially long commute if the weather is bad/traffic builds up and yeah, I live in Indiana.

"The drawbacks - a potentially long commute"

Potentially nothing...that is a long as$ drive to ORD no matter how you spin it.

"if the weather is bad"

Which it quite often is in Chicago.

"traffic builds"

Which will happen for all day shifts and even some swing shifts.

"I live in Indiana"

That alone is enough reason to pop the extra couple hundred K's for a place and a few thousand more a year on property tax to live closer to the city. Just my opinion of course.
