I was in a similar boat. Applied in November of 06, did my physical, interview, etc in Jan 07. I got a phone call in April of 2007 from HR asking if I could report to my facility (across the country) in NINE days. I received my final offer letter once I negotiated a realistic start date.

Be ready to move. Fortunately I was able to push my start date back until my children finished the school year. I was able to put more weight into pushing back my date because school in the state I was moving to ended a month earlier than the state I was moving from and my kids did not have enough of the school year done to get credit for the school year if the move would have been made when initially requested.

Plenty of threads here about the 20K bonus, but I don't know much about that personally.

First couple of days at work were spent at the regional office filling out paperwork for benefits, getting ID cards, tour of the facility, etc. There was a checklist the manager went through.

Then classroom training starts. You will become one with CBI.

Don't sweat it. There will be a lot of acronyms and terminology thrown around you won't know that has to do with the agency and it's operations. There will be spreaders and flex time. Credit on the front/back and forced holidays. Just ask and people will teach you.

Keep your nose in the books and your head down. Watch, observe. Spend your breaks in the books and not on the couch watching TV.

Ask questions.

Again, if you're unsure of something: ask.

The people around you are full of information - sponge it from them.

Best of luck
