You got to be joking Average NEW controllers make a lot less than those old pay scales. Check it out for yourself. I can tell you first hand you make $8 and change at OKC, then $32K a year for an indefinate period of time. Basically until you can work 2 to 4 positions alone. That can take from less than 1 year in smaller facilities to as much as 2 1/2 in others. When you fully get checked out you make anywhere from $60K to $85K a year (plus diffs) depending again, on the facility that you get into. People in my facility are making mid $70s after they checked out, They used to make $105K. If you are looking dreamily at those salaries and think that is what they are paying now you are in for a rude awakening. Why do you think the FAA is hiring from "Off the street" My point on the such an expensive degree would most certainly be worthy of a much better paying job than $32K to start and maybe up to $75K after 3 or 4 years. I would venture to say that the average Duke grad starting salary is a LOT higher than $32K

The FAA slashed the heck out of starting salaries (By 30%) and froze my pay indefinately.

I love my job and it is challenging. I HATE MY EMPLOYER and will quit as soon as I can. You want to be challenged Then the FAA is just right for you then. You will be challenged every step of the way through training, you will have your patience tested and challenged every time your boss that has 1 1/2 years CPC experience tells you why you got screwed on a bonus which rules where JUST given to you for the LAST year's rating period.

If the FAA did not have such stupid management I would stay until I was forced out, as it stands I will leave day ASAP.

Thank you zab. I tried making this point about a week ago and a couple of hard headed individuals tried to slam me for it.

You should add in there though that us new guys have to pay for all of our training supplies (at least at my facility) and that there is a reason why the FAA made us sign some agreement at Oklahoma City that as a FAA employee we could not accept Government Assistance programs (the ones aimed at helping the poor) for a reason.

I'm not trying to cry rivers over the pay situation that I knowingly came in on. I just can't stand the FAA spouting this bull about how lucky I am to be making soooo much money. And I can't stand hearing Congressmen or citizens quoting the FAA's lies as if its fact. Its kind of like having a blind individual argue with you over the color of the sky. Whereas the sky is green, safety was never compromised. Put your blindfold on and move along.
