I've been doing it for 12 years. I love the job. The FAA has got to be one of the worst employers in the nation. They have no regard for their employees at all. They view the emplyoees as simply "human capital", to be used as they see fit. The life of an air traffic controller is full of sacrifice. We sacrifice regular work schedules for rotating shifts which are scientifically proven to shorten our lifespans. We give up birthdays, weddings, holidays, soccer and baseball games, graduations and even funerals. We do it because we love the job. We used to be well compensated for the work and sacrifice. Those days were brought to an end. The FAA's claimed wages are a dirty trick. It would take a lot of explaination to show why , but trust me, what the FAA is doing is lying to prospective employees. I hope something turns the ship around, but for now I'd call it a bad investment to take on a CTI degree at this point in time. That's why I suggested your son just apply directly and take a job when offered. His chances really aren't improved by having a CTI degree.
