See, we're sitting at 204 out of 222 (1 being the highest, 222 the lowest), beating out and, sadly, being beaten by a few Federal jobs posting no, or limited, data. Sweet
I mean how bad is it that a job with a fat "N/A" or "No Data" is beating us
Lasrn, the answer is "No". If your son goes to school for ATC, not only is it a complete waste of money, its a horrid investment. If he wants to do the job so badly and wants secondary education, hire direct and go to school while hes in upgrade training for a separate career field. Its generally not smart to place all your eggs in one basket, and most of us new guys who were prior military or college grads feel that pain. Luckily, the military afforded us the opportunity to sign up for the Montgomery GI Bill, and I know a good handful of new guys waiting to use it so that we're not obligated, or stuck, in this current quagmire. Even so, as 68dart said, "Historically, it's about a 50% failure rate no matter which avenue a person takes." Its not a matter of his intelligence, so we're not trying to take inappropriate slaps in your direction; its a matter of many factors, including a good bit that are 100% out of his control.
The 204 of 222 quib was just a sarcastic joke. If you take a look at it though, note the scores. ATC scores highest in matching employees to the job tasking and in teamwork. The rest range below, most well below, the 60 mark. I'm sure if that list was current, the scores would even be far lower.
If you want a look at the true FAA, watch the array of videos that ZDC (stuckmic) has on youtube.com. Watch our master and commander, ie Bobby Sturgell, wiggle like a greased hog at last weeks Senate confirmation hearing. This here is just a forum with a gaggle of mostly controllers. You really can't argue with C-SPAN coverage of the hearings. ![]()
