Bird Strike at White Plains
Apparently on Sept 15th there was a bird strike at White Plains. There was a flock of geese that were hanging out on the runway. Operations radioed the tower twice asking to clear the birds. The controller supposely told them I know, don't worry, they'll fly away twice. Well the Leer Jet is cleared for takeoof and runs straight into 7 birds. Needless to say the plane flow over the airport for a while until it redirected to JFK. Big investigation. What do you think of that?

Re: Bird Strike at White Plains
Well, I can tell you that it isn't the controllers job to pop off the headset, unplug, run out to the runway, shoo the birds away, just so the plane can take off. Someone else is at fault.

Re: Bird Strike at White Plains
As long as he issued a bird advisory he's good, if he saw it.
2-1-22
a. issue advisory information on pilot-reported, tower-observed, or radar-observed AND pilot-verified bird activity.
nowhere on there does it say "joe blow reported". tower or pilot only. i feel bad for the situation but that's the regulation we go by.

well it is the person's fault if the operations team contacted them twice and said that they would desperse the birds and the controller told them no twice on the radio.

I am with Piper. Fact is, if it wasn't any of those listed, it isn't the tower's job to submit the info. Not to mention, if he wasn't visually seeing anything or wasn't picking it up on radar, it's not his responsibility.
Also, if there was no activity after a certain period of time, he won't issue any more bird advisories.
