Re: Off The Street Hiring to Return in FY2012?

"IF" this is true, it'll only hurt the many CTI's out there who are putting themselves through school, moving to school, and taking out high interest loans when someone else fresh out of high school can just boot up they're computer and apply, get selected the next year and start at a facility in no time, all without never knowing what a "cti" is. All because they applied in a state like north dakota where no cti applied and the need for personnel was high. Grant it, OTS are not all high school grads looking for a career, some have college experience and careers.

However, my point is either the CTI or OTS should be abolished, there is no need for both.

But hey what do I know, I'm just an applicant.

I really hope this is true. I controlled in the military but didn't get the stupid 52 weeks of experience crap and now I am in CTI school and it sucks. I already learned this stuff in the military. If it is true do we have to take the ATSAT before we can apply to the FAA OTS announcement?

Yay, taking people less qualified in the name of diversity.

"He may be a crappy controller but god damned if he doesn't make us more diverse"

we just need more "urban" cti schools...

and military ATC is plenty diverse...

insert the 900 racially sensitive comments in my head that people would not take as jokes

I think that's the right approach, but substitute "Historically Black Colleges" for "urban". Sounds like a natural fit for Tuskegee University.

What does a BA have to do with the aptitude to do this job?

I remember that one of the OTS qualifications was work experience in aviation like a dispatcher certificate or pilot license. Then once taking the ATSAT they decide who really has the aptitude.

I really wonder how well the candidate with experience does compared to one with a BA who gets hired at 23 or 24.

Feedback from a family member in another facility is that both CTI and VRA hires often show up lacking the experience in the workplace to succeed.

PUBNAT's require you have 3 years full-time work experience, four years of college, or a combination of both. No one fresh out of high school would meet that.

If they do open up another OTS bid just apply to it yourself. I know plenty of CTI students/graduates that were picked up OTS. Could be a blessing in disguise if it happens.

I believe It's a legal issue, called fair pracitces. It may not be what they want, but if they hire a few OTS they can avoid some potential legal issues. CYA!!
