**Mainland to Hawaii transition Assistance Thread**
Posted: 06-25-2009, 01:46 PM

Hello Fellow Future hawaii controllers! I've spoken to a few reps over the months regarding the transition to and settling into our new lives in Hawaii, and I've been told that it's not uncommon for newhires to group up into shared housing/living situations.

I was thinking that this is a pretty wise decision and probably the best course of action to take during our first few months (or even year) on the job while we get adjusted and acclimated to this new environment.

Also, I do know that once we finish the first OJT goal at HCF we get sent back to OKC for additional training - having to rent in Hawaii and worry about transitioning back and forth until finally checking out would be difficult unless multiple people can share the burden together...

If anyone would like network here to live/study together through all of this, just post here so we know who you are and we'll take it from there!

----Not to be a thread Nazi but I'm going to highly moderate this thread to make sure we know exactly who's going where and when for accuracy and logistical prudence.----

The more people we can get to network in this thread the better!

Sweet we got one! lol. I'll make a list in the original post of your name and which PEPC you attended so we can start guesstimating our arrival times in HI.

Just as a heads up, HCF has their own RTF program, so after you finish training on local you don't have to go back to OKC for a month. Also, for those of you going to hilo you end up doing your RTF in honolulu instead of OKC. The perk of this is you get to learn on your own airspace instead of learning academy airspace and then having to forget it all when you get back to your facility.

I'm also headed for HCF...eventually! I live on Oahu but wouldn't mind joining a study session.

Sorry for the late response! I didn't. I did everything via the traditional route.
