Re: Does the FAA look at the 2nd Geo Pref?
Posted: 11-26-2009, 01:43 PM Just make sure you take whatever facility they offer you.
A ATCer from ZAU told me that if they give you an offer and you turn it down that they will NEVER give you another offer. They feel you arent a "team player." |

Personally I'd be very hesitant to turn down anything though. |

My father (Retired Controller) said the same thing. If you get an offer and turn it down, then that's it... you're out.

Re: Does the FAA look at the 2nd Geo Pref?
Posted: 12-03-2009, 09:15 PM I don't plan on turning any offers down, which is why I plan on picking only one state: Alaska. I'm not going to take a chance on getting set somewhere I would really hate (even though they could still send me anywhere).

I sure wouldn't bet on getting a second opportunity though. |

Re: Does the FAA look at the 2nd Geo Pref?
Posted: 12-11-2009, 11:28 AM Here's a question: If I pick two particular states in which I prefer to work, will they only offer me a position if one is available? Say if I choose Louisiana and Arkansas, would they offer me another position in another state if those two states have none? I have made it abundantly clear to anyone who listens that I will move in a heartbeat. TIA.

Just a 'basic' aspect of the OTS process: there is NO guarantee whatsoever of getting an offer just because you pass the AT-SAT and move on to geoprefs. Even after you get the TOL, you've got MEDICAL, BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, INTERVIEW, ACADEMY, etc. The chance of getting an offer in the first place is pretty much speculation. From everything I've seen, it's probably 5-10% maximum. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you were getting at(?), but I hope it clears things up a bit! |
