Does the FAA look at the 2nd Geo Pref?

So I've heard via the good old reliable rumors disseminated on the interweb that the FAA doesn't even look at your 2nd geo pref. Anyone have info on this at all?

If it IS true, this would change things drastically for me. Minneapolis Center is by far my biggest preference. I was thinking though that maybe I would put "throughout nation" as my first choice just to have the best chance of getting selected. Is this even a choice? Otherwise, if I put ZMP first and then throughout the nation I could be throwing away PUBNAT8 altogether.

I think someone else can better answer your first question. You can only pick states as far as I can recall from picking my preferences though. I heard somewhere on StuckMic that someone got picked at another state that didn't even correspond to their preferences, but I think that was only an instance.

Don't believe the hype. There are at least 5 applicants (I can think of) from previous Pubnats that were selected for their second choices. Not that the FAA uses any logical thinking or reasoning during the selection process, but I don't see the point in offering two options only to ignore one of the two.

i've you've made it this far, you should've learned by now that there is no exact science to what they do during this hiring process...just make your picks and wait like the rest of us, if you get it great, if not...well try again or go to cti school

and i'm a big advocate of networking...if you really want to get somewhere, then go talk to them. it worked for me

im an example....I put down NY/NJ for my geo prefs and they offered me Leesburg VA???{ZDC}...there is no rhyme or reason at all as to how they pick who for what locations, you just got to watch, wait and see.

Irishcarbomb, I agree that networking is a good idea. I have yet to find the time to call people up and arrange a tour, but I will in the coming months. My only concern is that I might seem like a pest...I know an ATM would already have a lot on their plate and be so busy while on the job that it seems like a little old PUBNAT applicant like myself is just a nuisance...or maybe this shows them that I am really determined and want the job?

by the way, liandrajade, ZDC is my first choice and I would have killed to have the offer that you turned down. I toured ZDC last week and loved it. Great people, great location. fairly small beautiful town within a half hour of DC. perfect.

You are required to pick at least one state. You have the option of picking two though.

There is a comment section where you can put 'throughout the nation' but there is no gurantee they'll ever look at it or consider it.
