I totally agree. I think most people from PUBNAT 8 will age out before they get TOLs, assuming PUB 8 people aren't dropped entirely. I'm dead serious. Hiring probably won't pick up again for several years, and we still have plenty of people from PUBNAT 7 in front of us, not to mention all the CTI/VRA/CTO people.

No... it's not going to take "several years" to process those apps or resume hiring off the street (albeit the OTS numbers will be lessened, but that's always been the case). Mandatory retirements are just that, mandatory... the hiring still has to happen in the end, no way around it. The FAA's just taken advantage of the flexibility they've gained by the new contract/bad economy (controllers were quitting early rather than staying on for a smaller paycheck... now with their retirement tanked and more to earn, they've eased up some). The FAA now has a little breathing room, and they're wisely using it to correct some poor decisions made when it comes to hiring and training.

Sucks to wait, but honestly, it's not any worse than it has been for most OTS and CTI applicants for years now. There was a small bump of some people from around PUBNAT1 and 2 that moved a bit quicker... but other than that, waits of 2-3 years weren't unheard of. I don't like it either, but it is what it is. People coming into the process now are fortunate that so much more information is out there than there used to be.

Good point... with mandatory retirements, there is always some quantity of hiring going on. The line is moving slowly, but it is moving. However, many of us do face the possibility of aging out before going to OKC. Hopefully us old folks, in our wisdom, aren't planning our lives around ATC.

I've heard Colgan and American Eagle are hiring. Pay sucks, QOL leaves much to be desired, but if you don't have a family and you're in love with aviation, it's a good way to go.

I sure hope that you're all wrong. I turn 31 in October and hope to get picked up by then from Pubnat 8. Everytime they push it back my stomach drops. I really want this chance! I know that I would love the job! I still have hope and some light at the end of the tunel. Little light there is seems to be fading fast!

From what I have read on "the other website" from people at OKC right now there will be no new classes for 2010.

No one from Pub 8 will see OKC this year. I doubt you'd even see it next year.

I just called a rep from the recruiting office and they said they would start to pull from the punnat8 pool sometime in late summer to fall.
