Monitoring pubnats
Posted: 02-05-2010, 02:39 PM

Hello,

26 year old airline pilot (Colgan) ready to leave this company and industry (have you seen the news lately, if not tune into PBS Frontline Tuesday at 9) and would love to get into ATC. Not willing to do a CTI, so I will patiently wait for a PUBNAT. What is the best way to watch for these and how long are the PUBNAT windows typically open?

Thanks,

P

There are not going to be any more PUBNATS for awhile. If you can't take a year of your life to do a CTI course then you're not going to get the job.

No More Pubnats

I respectfully disagree. Who knows when the next pubnat will be? That link just says no more for this FY. Pubnats as a whole are not done. He/She is only 26.

True - try looking up the CTI on-line program at Vaughn. Or check out the ANG for ATC (just in case).

I'm all for anyone who wants to wait for a PUBNAT so long as they are approaching air traffic as an "eh, I'll give it a try" type of job. For those who REALLY? want this job, I fail to understand why anyone would put it to chance. Sure, CTI does not guarantee anything, but it definitely has much better odds.

I never said they weren't coming back. But I wouldn't be surprised if it's another 2 years before we see the next one. There's a huge back log right now that's only trickling through. Factor in the decreased need plus the constant inflow from CTO, CTI, VRA, and REINST apps and it's going to be a while. They're too old for military and there's no reason to think that OTS wont be as big of a crap shoot as it has ever been. No CTI=not much hope.

Do you think this will cause them to stop everything for PUBNAT 8? such as, they won't email geo prefs anymore or hold panels? or do you guys think they will finish out PUBNAT 8 and just not start up a PUBNAT 9.

If I was Pub 8 and serious about this career I'd be looking into CTI. I definitely wouldn't just sit back and hope for the best. There's a bunch of people that have been waiting longer than Pub 8, not to mention all the CTI grads.

As far as waiting for Pub 9 and getting hired through that...yikes. Maybe in 3 or 4 years. If you're not willing to go CTI as you state, you should consider ATC a long shot. Just my opinion.

well for me, i am a first time applicant of pubnat and i am currently in pubnat 8 awaiting an email about geo prefs. As far as i know (or think) once a pubnat is closed isnt it over? they arent considering anyone from 6 and earlier unless you reapplied for 7 or 8?
