Antartica deployment
Posted: 04-27-2009, 03:34 PM If there is anyone here who has been hired with SRC, I was just wondering how SRC treats their employees, what the average pay is for a seasonal deployment, and if the work is enjoyable or not.

Re: Antartica deployment
Posted: 02-22-2010, 06:00 PM There is a retired MGySgt that still lives in the area there in NC that worked in antarctica. Wicked cool guy. He quit when the new company took over because the new managers were jerks. Some of the old timers at Cherry will know who it is. I heard NKT is going to be hiring...what's the story on that? I was the tower/radar chief there.

Re: Antartica deployment
Posted: 02-22-2010, 07:44 PM Yeah I was looking for any info regarding the Antartica deployments. Anyone have any? And to follow on with the previous post. Whats the status of NKT doing any hiring? I talked to Jeff Knipple and I'm trying to get one of the GS11 tower jobs. You know of any spots opening for sure and when?

Re: Antartica deployment
Posted: 02-22-2010, 08:19 PM All I know is that only X number of who they hire actually go to Antartica, they retain a small group of controllers that serve as backup controllers in Charleston SC. I've tried getting hired for several years, but I been told that they have a low turnover rate so it is hard to get hired.

Re: Antartica deployment
Posted: 06-30-2010, 03:31 PM Dawson, There are a limited number of openings each season depending if controllers return from the previous seasons. Pay isnt too bad, working conditions are good and management has improved greatly. The season usually last from Oct thru Feb each . Usually people try and post their resume on the SRC website but we rarely have to go thru our recruiters to hire personnel. Usually we have plenty of applicants via word of mouth from controllers that have been there before.

Re: Antartica deployment
Posted: 06-30-2010, 05:04 PM It's a great experience and well worth it! For the most Part the Management is good (with 1 or 2 exceptions), the pay is decent and SRC really handles themselves well when it comes to thier employees!! If you can go... GO!!

A CTO is good enough... but you'll probably get pushed aside by more experienced controllers. They tend to hire retired center controllers and people w/ non-RADAR experience. 80% of the work there is non-radar and you need to know your sh*t!!!
