Kuwait towers
Posted: 10-08-2009, 06:14 PM Hi, I was hoping someone could help me with a quick question. I've been working at a tower in afghanistan for two years now and I'm looking to hopefully get a job at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait to follow my wife who is being deployed there next year. I know they have an Army Airfield but I'm not sure who has the contract for the ATC there. Any help would be greatly apreciated and if anybody needs any info on Afghanistan employment I would be happy to help. Thanks.

Re: Kuwait towers
Posted: 10-09-2009, 01:30 PM Hey, I'm currently active duty military, getting out here pretty soon, so I've been browsing around to see rather or not I want to persue a career as a civilian contractor. I was actually hearing about Afghan contracts going for as much as 125k for 6 months? I was wondering how would I go about looking into this, or picking up a contract once I got out?
I have a TRACON, FWS, and PAR ticket... |

Re: Kuwait towers
Posted: 10-09-2009, 09:04 PM I've never heard of any 6 month contracts in Afghanistan. Usually a one year contract will be around 120k-130k. The company I work for doesn't have any radar facilities and you would need a cto to work in a tower. I think the best company to contact would be Midwest ATC. You can go on their website and apply and they will respond with different contact numbers for their different regions.

Re: Kuwait towers
Posted: 10-13-2009, 03:55 PM When I was in Kuwait as a controller in 2004 and 2005 I was working for KBR, but I heard they lost the contract and it is DynCorp now. As for Arifjan, I don't believe there is a contract ATC facility there. The KBR/DynCorp tower is at Camp Buehring.
I agree with JayHawk about a 6-month contract for 125K - I don't think that exists, at least not for ATC. |

Re: Kuwait towers
Posted: 10-16-2009, 12:30 AM Camp Arifjan is basically uncontrolled airspace. There use to be a tower there but it was closed a long time ago. Back when I came out of Iraq after a deployment in 04. I think the most the pilot do is report arrival with Udairi flight following at Camp Buehring and report arrival and departure with Kuwait Approach (Mohalab)

Jayhawk, I'm currently deployed down here to "beautiful" FOB Delaram. I have a CTO and my EAS is now September 2010. I'm looking to comeback here as a civilian contractor. Any caveats or bits of info you can supply would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Kuwait towers
Posted: 12-05-2009, 06:44 AM ITT has several of the contracts for VFR towers in Afghanistan, Midwest has most of the other contracts. I'm at Salerno working as a controller, and I have to admit life here is pretty good. Thing is I'm hearing and seeing that there are management issues (LMR) just about everywhere, about all you can do is just try to do your job and hope they leave you alone.
