If u fail the 2nd time u are let go..however the 2nd PV is graded by 2 people from ATO, not the same evaluator as the first, and both have to fail the person for it to be a failure..so if one says pass and one says fail u pass

Hope things go well and welcome to the world of FAA training. I have seen this situation recently in a facility and personally experienced this myself over 20 years ago. It is most frustrating and puts a 500 lb. monkey on your back on the retake. My personal situation was never training before 7:30 because my trainers wanted to eat breakfast for an hour and getting a check ride first thing in the morning at 6:40 on a configuration I never saw through 2 years of training. (I never saw that configuration again until AFTER I checked out.) I was almost fired over that and never given a chance to fully explain, from then on I was a basket case on any check ride/skill check. Nobody could see that was unfair so after I said my take that day I shut my mouth with the understanding the person I would be complaining to had the keys to my career. I also had my coworkers talking behind my back with my trainers leading the way. Sweet work environment, unfortunately that has not changed much in 20+ years.

I understand the "Too much knowledge" part can be confusing and frustrating too. I have seen people that probably had 150+ IQ and knew the 7110.65 word for word, but could not separate the cheeks of their ass using both hands. I have also seen some other people that where socially retarded, needed granamals to get dressed in the morning, had his wife tie his shoe laces and make his lunch before work, that was probably one of the top 5 controllers in the building.

You can "Out smart" your self to death instead of playing the game in OKC or Stage 2 (WCG/Ratheon in the facility) and get sent hitting the bricks.

To be honest, I think the instructor doing the 1st PV sounds like a prick. Most people want everybody to succeed, every once in a while you meet a jerk that wants to ruin people's day for one reason or another. Your husband just needs to keep in mind OKC is NOT there to train, screen or do anything else other than play a game. Same thing for WCG, don't argue, go with the flow and get to the floor. Just play the game and get to the floor at a facility where you really start to learn. Be flexible enough to forget most everything you have "Learned" from OKC and WCG except for the maps and letters and be ready to start fresh.

Hopefully this will be the only run in your husband gets, but the hints I am giving here could come in handy if he sees it again.

is he terminal or en route??

depending on how he gave the VFR the heading and what facility he's training for, he could've been just fine doing it. i would like to hear more from your husband on what exactly he did and why the "desk jockey" failed him.

Should've told them that the VFR had requested flight following and he was diverting them around expected parachute operations. "Not my fault they didn't let you in on that, man."

kinda rediculous to fail someone for giving a vfr aircraft a heading... you would think there has to be more to it than that. Would like to know more details.
