Re: Wanna talk PV?
Posted: 07-17-2009, 03:48 PM There's absolutely nothing new in the PV that you haven't learned/done a thousand times already. The most important thing the PV problem focuses on is conflict resolution. Not all problems are the same, but very similar. They are similar to the problems you run everyday, but at the same time have a slightly different feel. What I'm talking about the PV problem will run at the speed of say, problem 18, but have the same amount of conflicts as a low 30's problem. They want to see that you can find, indentify, and resolve issues but they won't make you do it with balls to the wall traffic. The problem is decently paced slow and takes a longer 45 mintues to complete than say a regular 35-40 minute problem. Also, whey you're done with a regular problem, you will be pretty much out of strips. When you give the relief briefing after the PV, you will have a whole row of strips left still. So the feel is slightly different.
Things you need to prepare for which fail a lot of people: 1.) get good at scanning strips, putting in your red W's, and taking care of them. thats the ONE most important thing you should learn how to do in the 30 something problems running up the it. 2.) if you F up the 6-7-10 a third time, just make a phone call and apreq it. don't go down the crapper trying to put it in 3.) in the beginning of the problem, the printer will print a bunch of strips for you to stuff. dont get distracted doing this too much. 4.) please check your r/t button on the VSCS PLEASSE....that failed somebody in my class since he couldnt hear the r side and couldn't figure out why 5.) the MOST IMPORTANT THING....please dont let your nerves get to you. you WILL be nervous, but eventually you have to shut that feeling off and get into the problem. Nerves are the numero uno thing that fails people. I'm sure I can think of more and I can't think of specific things since I haven't taken the damn problem in forever. |

What Exactly is a Performance Verification - PV?
Posted: 01-24-2010, 04:38 PM From reading these forums, i see that you take it at OKC, and that if you fail it twice they basically kick you out.
But do you take only one PV? is it taken at the end of OKC kind of as the "final check" before going off to your facility? Any info would be great Thanks in advance |

Re: What Exactly is a Performance Verification - PV?
Posted: 01-25-2010, 12:28 AM yeah the PV is the final test to determine if you pass the course. there's 2 different PV's that you'll take at the academy.
a written PV will be a multiple choice test that you need to attain a minimum score (80%) i think. all 3 options will have a written PV...including the lesser known written PV for ITR. most think that RTF/ITR is pass/pass, which it is a for a performance type of PV but there is a written PV. the performance PV, which is the more common one that you think of when talking about PV, is at the end of the course. it is used to gauge if you have the minimum aptitude and show enough learned skills to go into the field and work real planes. a manager of some level will grade your PV on a pass or fail scale. pass and your off to your facility to start the real training. fail and you'll get a second chance to pass the performance PV. you fail the second time and it's the highway for you. if you pass the second time then you go on to your facility. |

Re: What Exactly is a Performance Verification - PV?
Posted: 01-26-2010, 10:17 PM The written PV is EASY. It's bascially just a block test, and you only need to score a 70%. There are 51 questions on it, at least on the enroute one.
The actual PV is much different. It's basically the most important 40 minutes of your career. If you pass you move on to your facility. If you fail you get a second chance because they understand how stressful the experience can be, but if you fail that they take your badge and escort you out the door! A tower class PV'd yesterday. Only 10 out of the 18 people in the class passes. They had their retakes today, but I didn't hear how they did. From what I've noticed usually about half the people end up passing their retakes, sometimes less. |

Kim mentioned that in chat. Compared to how many have been passing lately, that's pretty harsh. Of course, compared to what it used to be like, sounds pretty standard. Either way... it's enough to get me a little edgy.

What are you considering 'lately'? Since I've been here there have been A LOT of failures. Like way more than ever got mentioned since I've been in this process.

Around the time you got in (roughly) up till recently, word around here was that passing rates were 90-95%.
