Facility Staffing Info
Greetings fellow prospects, I just wanted to bring attention to something that was stuck in my craw. While I (like many/most of us on here) owe a LOT to people here who have taken time out of their own lives to help strangers, particularly with the ATSAT test, there is an aspect of the site that is at best misleading and possibly completely outdated. From various sources, the facility staffing info linked on this site had been dated since 2007, and in no way is accurate to the present date, especially considering the vast amount of new hires for the FAA. I understand why this information was added to the site, since there's a lot of us who are concerned with balancing our desire to work at our preferred destinations with our overriding passion for this career. Many of us would take almost any assignment to get our foot in the door, but old information about our preferred areas of work might be a hindrance to us. With that in mind, if the facility staffing information link on this site is indeed dated, I suggest that the moderators of this site either remove it entirely, or at least slap a major disclaimer that this is dated information, and is incomplete at best. Again, I'm not trying to bash Stuck Mic, as I'm indebted to the information on here, just trying to look out for everyone's best interest.
Cheers,
Gopher

Re: Facility Staffing Info
GopherState,
Thank you for voicing your concern with the link. I did not remove the link as right now, it is the only site I'm aware of that can give anyone a clue as to what the staffing levels are. I changed the link title to "2007 Staffing.." or something like that, even though the information on the site lets you know that it is dated to 2007.
Also, it is a mere tool to get an idea of what to expect, you definitely shouldn't base your entire decision off of some website as to where you would like to work.
Also, I am at a facility that is 130% staffed and we continue to get new hires.
Hopefully just changing the title of the thread you referenced will be enough.
Hope that helps!

Re: Facility Staffing Info
I don't know about anyone else, but when we (my husband and I) look at sites or information like that, we take it with a grain of salt. We know that most of the information given should never be considered end all be all. I also have a similar document that was done by the FAA and lists all expected vacancies over the next few years. Always keep in mind that it is projected. There is no way for anyone to know how many vacancies there will be anywhere. You've got to remember that it doesn't reflect vacancies due to people quitting, being fired, death, transfers, trainees changing their mind ect ect ect.
On that note I think the information is worth a glance. It at least will give people an idea on what is to be expected at various locations. We are interested in a smaller airport and on first glance it seems that there is not any need for a trainee, but it never hurts to call the facility itself and see if there are vacancies or if they are even wanting trainees. Just because there isn't a vacancy, doesn't mean Mr Doe and Mr Smith aren't retiring in 6 mo and so forth....
Hope that makes sense.... it's too early and I haven't finished my coffee!::-P

Re: Facility Staffing Info
no offense gopher but that is the most updated information as provided to stuckmic or the general public, it by no means reflects anything to the fact that the owners of this site are putting up half-a$$ed information, if you know where to find the most up to date staffing lists, then by all means please post it here for all us, it would be much appreciated....

Wow that was well put. And besides the site does say when the data was polled on it....... it isn't like it is just random information with no source or anything else.

Re: Facility Staffing Info
It could also be somewhat of a security issue to release up to date manning for ATC facilities.

None taken. If I had up to date staffing lists, I'd gladly share the wealth, but obviously none of us have that information. Since the information was from 2007, it is possible that today's staffing levels resemble that report very closely in reality. It's also possible that individual levels have changed significantly since then. The problem for us is we simply don't know which is true, so there is really no way to tell how useful that information is. LawnGnome said he'd change the link title to reflect the date of the information (I myself missed it on the site until the second time I viewed it), which is a perfectly acceptable solution to what I voiced. Again, Stuck Mic is a great site that I owe a lot to, so the last thing I wanted to do was upset anyone over this.
Cheers,
Gopher

i didnt even think of that.....or perhaps they dont want anyone to know how bad the staffing really is, i looked at the link we have here to see the stats on individual atc facilities.....i dont remember if it was new york artcc or n90 was listed at 98% staffed??? man that brought my hopes down to see that b/c it makes me think there is no way i will get that location.....the other one was like 74% i think....
