Does It Make A Difference On Prefs?

So what's the deal with Geos??? Do they REALLY consider them? I have seen such conflicting answers. It seems some people get their picks, while others get something completly random, then others not at all.

Now for the real question.... Do your Geo Prefs make a difference in if you are considered? How on earth do you choose them? I know some people want to stay in certain areas. For us, we dont want to stay here. But I don't know where we'd like to go. There's alot of places I have never been and honestly don't know if we'd like it!!

In all reality, we'll take anything that is thrown at us! (i just hope it's further North). Just curious how it works, or if there is even a system at all! HA!

The thing I was told by different people is that the FAA will consider your PREFERENCES. However the current FAA staffing situation/crisis requires them to fill certain locations and facilities before others. With this in mind they will try to accommodate your preferences but there is no guarantee. For example, I requested terminal only but was given a Enroute facility in my state due to its staffing need.....

I'm not a controller yet but here's the logic that I can see. They are after all Preferences.

They will try to get you to a facility based off of your preferences if manning is needed there... if they cant then they offer you what they have. Take it or leave it.

Pick two states that have alot of facilities .....then you might get a better chance of getting grabbed............

They seem to adhere to the states you choose, but that's about it. Though there have been a few people who have been chosen for facilities that had absolutely nothing to do with their preferences. Someone chose a state in New England, the other in the Pacific Northwest and then was assigned Memphis Center. I'm pretty sure he declined it since he had an app in for PUBNAT3.

There might be a "Throughout the Nation" option -- someone verify this?

If not, own up and research where you want to go. Pick California; there's definitely plenty of facilities there.

4999x/5000x (totally made up number) they will give you one of the two states you select.

This would be my advise as well and it worked for me For my first pubnat, I picked 2 states (NJ/DE) that had 6 facilites between them and didn't get selected. For my second pubnat, I picked 2 states (VA/PA) that had 18 facilities between them and got selected.

OK given the idea that you pick states with more options within them is there anywhere or does any know of a list of states and the number of facilities within them?
