Default Test Scores and Work Locations

I realize that there is two catagories for your testing score, above qualified and qualifed. Does the faa look at the actual test score or the qualified/above qualified status when making hiring/interviewing decisions?

As well a rumor was circulating that due to the high number of applicants, that the FAA was only considering people that scored 90 and above.

Finally, is there a list or idea of what locations are really hurting for people, rather than those that are staffed so that you can work your way quicker to the interview in the door process?

What are the entry salary ranges for entering a tracon vs. a en-route?

I think the FAA hires from the highest score down on the AT-SAT, I have heard nothing about there being "Too many candidates" 90 was not a cut off recently, but that could have changed already, but I doubt it. Where did you hear the 90 or better score only rumor, our rumor was that anyone that can breathe gets hired. You don't get too many people busting down the door in Albuquerque for $34K When flight service's starting pay is closer to your CPC pay...

There are so many "Hurting facilities" to list, they all pretty much need people and I can't see the FAA "Fast tracking" anyone to anywhere makes any difference. Your hiring has more to do with trying to push you off until the end of a Fiscal year or the beginning of another or another quarter than when we really needed you. The FAA is run by morons that make you wait 9 months for no good reason and then expect you to be in OKC in a week to fill a class at the last minute. The waiting part has gotten better but it is still frustrating.

Entry wages are the exact same for any FAA facility $18K/year + per diem at OKC and I think $34K at the facility not including locality pay. That is the only variable.

So for someone like me who scored in the mid 70's, do I still have a chance? I live in PHX, but from SO CAL, so working in Palmdale is a prime choice. I am guessing that getting a cake location like LAX or SNA tower might be tough?

DOes the FAA look at actual score, or the above or qualified rating for selection purposes?

The faa looks at the category your score places you in, either qualified or well qualified. Qualified =<85, well qualified =>85. The faa will pick up mostly well qualified first, but if you pick a state that is not too popular, you might get picked up.

I have to go with SHYU, put in for So Cal and see what happens, what is the worst that could happen? The reason they are taking most everyone that takes the test is that the AT-SAT really does not have anything to do with ATC success. They are using that stupid test as a basis on who to hire first, but I can't tell the difference from the ones coming to ZAB now from the ones we first got that scored in the high 90s.

If you don't get hired, then just take the test again as soon as you are allowed.
