It sounds like you put "Throughout the Nation" as your preference -- did you add in any qualifiers in the comment box that could've narrowed yourself down too much, or did you leave it blank? That would be the first thing I would think of, selecting a place where there wasn't enough space for you to get in.
Second, what are things that could've been red flags on your application? Were you able to conclusively demonstrate either three years of full-time college experience or three years of employment where you've progressed in responsibility? If it was work, was it a job that would look good to someone hiring a controller (minimum-wage work, for example, wouldn't be too compelling)? Were you honest and consistent on the psychological questions (as inconsistent answers can be picked up on), and did you give middle-of-the-road answers (as coming off too over- or under-confident aren't good things)? Did you accidentally select the wrong answer to anything, like not authorizing the FAA to look into your background? Check over your application carefully for any omissions of this sort. One guy in PUBNAT4 didn't receive approval for the AT-SAT due to an accidental omission in employment information.
You should've been applying to every PUBNAT you can, because if you don't clear one step of the process, you can then rely on the next group. If you haven't been doing so, well... that's unfortunate, but PUBNAT7 should be up in the near future so go ahead and apply to that. You'll have to wait a while to get to the geo. preferences again with that group -- PUBNAT3 is still waiting on theirs -- but if you want to stay in the game, it's probably your only option. Once you get removed from the rest of your group, it's unlikely that you'll be able to re-join them later, based upon the experiences that others have described.
Finally, it wouldn't hurt to call the career line to ask what they thought went wrong. They might not be able to tell you, but you never know. There's always the possibility that you were accidentally left out... it happens.

Erg. Tell me you had someone proofread what you
did submit. I'm not saying this to be rude, I promise, but having been in a hiring position before where I've had to go through resumes and applications, rampant misspelling is one of the easiest ways to get your application tossed. I know that for some people, writing just isn't their strong suit even though they're smart otherwise -- but it's a red flag nonetheless when you see that someone doesn't know how to spell words appearing right there on the application.
Again, not trying to be a jerk here, just trying to share some helpful advice... you may have had more than just work experience working against you (although leaving that off is obviously a glaring mistake, since it's a key component to the application).
