While earlier this year President Obama recommended a 2 percent pay increase in 2010 for federal employees, the actual raise could be much larger.
The early indicator comes from the House Armed Services Committee's military personnel panel last week which approved a 2010 pay raise of 3.4 percent for the uniformed military.
If this increase becomes final, it will be a strong prediction of what the pay increase could be for civilian federal employees in 2010. For many years, Congress has proposed an equal or similar amount for both military and civilian raises due to efforts to achieve "pay parity."
Setting the federal employee pay raise is a long process, and actual pay raise figures -- with their locality adjustments -- are not usually issued until December of each year.
