Is vs. You are
Posted: 02-17-2010, 03:37 PM While listening to live ATC, I have heard controllers clear airplanes for ILS approaches in a few ways. Some that I have noticed is that the controller will say, Cessna 123 is cleared for the ILS runway 12 approach... On the other hand, I have heard controllers say, Cessna 123 you are cleared for the ILS runway 12 approach... Is there any difference between this terminology change? Is it just preference for saying one versus the other?

Don't forget to say "approach" in there.
When clearing an aircraft most controllers use the acroynm PTAC. Position, turn, altitude, clearance. 6 miles from the FAF, turn right heading 120, maintain 3000 until established on the localizer, cleared ILS RY 15 approach. |
