Two minute briefing overlap
Another in a long string of stupid rules. If I stay over for two minutes and at 2:01 the relieving controller has a deal, I'm good, but if I waive the 2 minutes and he has a deal, I buy part of the responsibility? What a steaming crock. If the relieving controller says "I got the picture" I punch out. Isn't the responsibility supposed to fall on the person who is taking the position? I thought that's why you plugged in and watched prior to taking over; so you can "get the picture"? I realize that this is the FAA's way of shifting the blame for their failed policies regarding OE/OD's and staffing, onto controllers, but damn! Why not have a 30 minute overlap? Hell, if we are so concerned with OE/OD prevention, why not staff every position with 2 people , all day, every day? Oh yeah, I forgot, we can't staff the positions with one person all day every day cause we are so short.

so we were thinking
if we're required to watch for two minutes post position and two minutes preposition does that mean we call all file/request code44 (missed meal break) since we will not be getting a 30 uninterrupted meal break.

Well, I heard we can't file Code 44 anymore anyway. Anyway we only get 25min breaks anyway.

I got my ass chewed a couple weeks ago by a Phlegm for taking a 32 minute lunch break when our elevator was OTS. 287 feet of fun up the steaming hot staircase. Fk that.
I love the FAA!

Are controllers being allowed to decide wether or not to waive the overlap at your facility? At mine only a supervisor can waive it. However I agree 110% with your statement. It's as if they sit in a room and ponder on how can we make this job miserable for them, how can we shorten their breaks...etc.

I work at an FCT and we only have one person per shift. So the person being relieved is the CIC. I kinda screwed up the wording. I just read that a controller had a heart attack on position. I think the link was posted in the comments on Carr's blog. Sign on, Die on is becoming a reality again.

No only FLeMs are allowed to waive it.
