once you get use to the new TIPH procedures...it's not really a pain...and for us, it helps out tremendously

I'm glad I work for the DoD. We can use it anytime without having to request any waivers or permission from some office b!@ch.

It is against RVA's policy but I know that DFW uses it for almost every departure, at least when the viewing area was open they did.

We use it here, but have to have the ASDE/AMASS system in full operational mode to be able to clear someone to land with someone else holding in position.

If its not up and working, we use "Continue Phraseology" and have to wait until after the departing a/c is cleared for takeoff before clearing to arrival to land.

At first it was different and kind of a pain, but its not as bad as some facilities I have heard of that have to use a "TIPH stick" or some other reminder when someone is holding in position.

Some of the radicals still refuse to use it since the FAA said that TIPH was a dangerous operation or something to that effect. Not me though, I hate having a line at the end of the runway.

We'd never move traffic if I didn't use it. We just tell everyone to continue. Thats another thing to rant about they (F'nAA) will be taking away our multiple landing clearances soon. Along with the TIPH phraseology. It will soon be "Line up and wait" <---WTF I'm not in the military again. what a joke!

Thats ICAO phraseology... DOC 4444, I used it when I was stationed in Italy. We also couldnt use multiple landing clearances... nothing more fun than a 40 jet recovery and only being able to have 1 cleared at a time. I think we said continue more than anything else.

This is how it went:
Tower: Line up and wait.
A/C: Roger, taxi into position and hold

Aren't those the types of facilities that are the most at risk for an incident due to TIPH? Or is it just that those facilities couldn't push the numbers they do without TIPH? So the FAA realizes the risk inherent with TIPH, especially at busy facilities, yet only allow those higher risk busy facilities use it? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Slower facilities don't really NEED it, but it sure is a nice tool.
Not sure about the details but we use it at O'Hare. I don't think it’s more strict than before. The only rule I can think of off top is we can't TIPH at an intersection and full length at night at the same time on the same runway.

If they took it away (they never would), it would drastically reduce the efficiency and departure/arrival delays would sky rocket.
