Default LASIK

Hey everybody,

I'm thinking about getting LASIK done in the near future. According to the FAA rules for pilots, as long as my post op is good and I can still meet the vision req I'm good to fly. Now since the medical is the same for pilots as controllers, would the same apply? Anyone have LASIK done?

Again - just thinking about it and it may not be worth the risks but.

I had PRK done while I was in the military (FREE!, actually you guys paid for it with your taxes!) I was only "down" for 3 weeks while I was on leave and then I went back to controlling.

My wife (not ATC) was damn near legally blind and she got it and she's almost 20/20 now. It's definitely life changing. I've never actually heard any horror stories at all. I also have a friend who is a controller and he had it with no difficulties. Should be a non-issue as far as controlling. Good luck

Yeah I have to say that for anyone that has had to wear glasses, it is life changing. I am reminded how sweet it is every morning when I can read the alarm clock unassisted.

BTW screw you and your avatar/signature

Had Lasik back in 2005. Was controlling back in PHL and lost my medical for about 2 weeks. Was working FD/CD 'til I submitted my Post Surgery report to the flight surgeon. VERY IMPORTANT: You will NOT get your medical clearance back if the surgeon states that your are on artificial tears.

Awwwwww, don't be a hater. It's tough to win a Superbowl when your QB is laying on his back all day!
