I'm just loving this, another squid. Suck it AF.

Welcome to the site. Are you looking to get in with the FAA or FCT?

When were you at the schoolhouse?

I'm hoping to work with one of the contractors in the middle east for couple years, and then if I can't get on with FAA with RMC, well then the only other option is FCT/DOD or a complete career change.

I was at Millington from April 1990 to 25SEP90, ages ago in the S420 barracks.

Is pearl harbor or north island easy for a first term airmen to get an FAA recognized CTO, and do they train people E-4 and below? Is pearl harbor a 3-yr or 2-yr shore duty?

Well as far as i know there is only one way to get a CTO in hawaii and being stationed at MCAS Kaneohe at the Marine base, pearl harbor only has FACSFAC located on Ford Island and thats all enroute control. you would have to call Kaneohe and talk with some of the navy controllers there, google the number.

NAS North Island is a kinda like a full approach control and they have a tower as well there are many positions to get qualified at, so its not easy
per se to get a CTO anywhere. There are many factors involved when you go to any facility when trying to obtain a CTO, some factors are:

How well you grasped the concept of learning and applying air control.
Are you a good sailor respects the chain of command and willing to do your
other general military duties as well as you want to perform ATC duties.
Do you have patience? and understanding that other senior people that are
there already and some that arrive after you will have priority in training 1st.
Are you willing to show GREAT initiative and ambition, so much so that your supervisor will know you mean business about getting a CTO.
Do you have the fortitude and will to not give up when you hit a difficult bump in training and push harder to overcome, use some personal off time to get more training and so on?

It's not impossible to get a CTO at your first duty station, but you will have to work for it no lie. All these things i just mentioned can apply to anyhere you get stationed that has a contol tower

And last my rules for myself while i served:
Never give up no matter what unless the he department head stops your training.
Do not let peer pressure F&ck you up, misery loves company.
Stay out of trouble especially off duty when you are more vulnerable for something to happen. non-controllers and civilians dont grasp that controllers cant drink and do drugs like they choose to do by nature of our work, easy to fall into a bad crowd and do something stupid watch out.
Eat,shit, live and breath every ATC position you train on.
I leaned on myself more than anyone to get me thru, when i needed help i always asked for it without fear and great humbleness.
Keep my mouth shut and follow orders the best i can.

Duty station rotation is always changing on shore so it could be 2-5 not sure.
I was an E5 at FACSFAC stayed 5yrs left as E6.
