Thanks everyone for the welcomes
![]() As for applying, I believe I am past the age cutoff ![]() Yes I do fly professionally. Corporate Pilot currently calling Atlanta home. I have been flying professionally for 30 years now and have about 15,000 hours. Currently type rated in 4 turbojet aircraft. Have flown numerous others as well. And for the curious, I enjoy engaging in conversation with ATC because I find that by understanding your job and some of the proceedures, I can better assist you by not asking for things I won't get, or by suggesting something that may help. An example is with the A80 Tracon. ATL arrivals are the bane of corporate pilots going out of the A80 West gates. Why? We get stuck below them unless traffic is light and the controller can point us out to the TAR and climb us through his airspace. Usually it's just too busy. So, our work around is to file out of the NOONE departure gate, over GQO and then turn west bound. That allows us to get that all important climb (to reduce fuel burn). About the time we reach GQO we're at or above FL240, turn west bound and continue climbing over the ATL arrivals coming in over RMG. And I got this suggestion from an A80 controller. Turns out it's incredibly helpful. |

Several applicants just went through a PEPC (Pre Employment Processing Center -- kind of a screening, so to speak) in Atlanta. Part of it involved receiving second class airman certificates at a doc that's probably seen about every pilot in town at one point or another. I can't remember the name, but it was in East Point, between Big Nick's and a BBQ place. Ever been by there?
